Cedar Brook

So many times

and for so many reasons

I burst through that door

and ran through the seasons.

The wind whipped against my face

but the rage kept me warm

As I ran across that bridge

and away from my home.

That image forever ingrained in my mind

Of the overpass I visited from time to time.

A man was said to have killed himself there,

he made one last commitment.

They say to jump is to sin,

but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t consider it.

How peaceful the fall

and then lights out.

To not hear the sirens

or your family shout.

But the truth is that the man who jumped

only did so because he took a gun

to his ex-girlfriends house, not even a wife

and in that moment he ended her life.
